Overview:

In the winter, Yellowstone becomes an enchanting land of frozen waterfalls, steaming geysers and abundant wildlife. Yellowstone in winter is a photographer's paradise. The contrast of boiling water from the many Hot Spring Basins with wintertime freezing temperatures creates a unique interplay of steam, frost, and snow. Frozen waterfalls provide another wonderful opportunity for photographers while the stark snow covered terrain provides the landscape photographer with infinite possibilities. However, the most majority of photographers come to Yellowstone in the winter for the abundance and accessibility of the charismatic wildlife.

Single Day Excursions:

A wonderful option for a single day excursion is to charter one of our snowcoaches and photograph when, where, and for how ever long you want. With a private tour, you set the agenda. Our guides have the experience to take you to the best areas for wildlife viewing or scenery. We will know where the best chance for animal photography is as we operate every day and will know where the wildlife was the day before. Our snowcoaches are 2-way radio equiped so guides/drivers in other groups can pass information on to your driver about wildlife developments as the day progresses.

Multi-Day Excursions:

Yellowstone Expeditions offers 4 and 5 day photo tours based at the Yellowstone Expeditions Yurt Camp near the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. Each day, photographers can be deep into the park at the Canyon or Hayden Valley for sunrise and the best wildlife photography in the park. We have hosted multiple cinematography crews from the BBC, Smithsonian, National Geographic, and Discovery Channel at the Yurt Camp. When you watch Yellowstone winter wildlife documentaries, chances are they were filmed from our Yurt Camp.
